Bats Lose, 5-2, to White Sox but Go The Distance

Sunday, May 27 (WEEK 7)

Ken Kozlik did all he could on the mound to give the Bats their first victory of the season, but a weak offense failed to provide the crafty right-hander with much run support in their 5-2 loss to the White Sox. The Bats dropped to 0-4 while the Sox evened their record at 2-2.

The division rivals took advantage of Bats errors to score 2 unearned runs in the first inning and another unearned run in the fourth to build a 3-1 cushion. The Bats cut that margin to 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth with a little small ball when Andy Liebmann reached on a one-out infield single. Darryl Eanos then lined a single to right field on a perfectly executed hit-and-run sending Liebmann to third. Tony DiBlasi followed that with a sacrifice fly to left field as Liebmann scored the Bats second run. DiBlasi also had two hits in the game.

The Bats other run came in the first inning when Kozlik helped his own cause with a leadoff single. Don Gragnani followed with a walk and Randy Harris stroked a single to drive home Kozlik.

Kozlik earned 1st Star of Game with his solid pitching perfomance as he went the distance for the Bats allowing 7 hits and a walk with 2 strikeouts and 2 earned runs. DiBlasi earned 2nd Star honors with his 2-for-2, 1 RBI perfomance, while Eanos was named 3rd Star for his well-executed hit-and-run single that set up the Bats fourth-inning run.

The Bats next game is Sunday, June 3 at 9:30 a.m. against the Yard Dogs at Jacobs High School in Algonquin. The school's address is 2601 Bunker Hill Drive, Algonquin, IL.
