BRAVES SCORE 4 IN THE FIRST, HOLD ON TO DEFEAT BATS
7/25/2010by Ron Skrabacz
The Bats surrendered 4 runs in the first inning and could not dig out of the hole while losing to the Braves, 8-6, in a game played at Jacobs High School's junior varsity field.

Heavy rains from the previous two days forced some pregame field maintenance around home plate and the pitchers mound which created a few problems early on.  Bats starting pitcher John Moulchin had difficulty getting his footing in the first inning and walked two of the first three batters he faced.  A couple of hits and an error later the Braves had taken a quick 4-0 lead.

The Bats started chipping away at that lead in the second inning with one out when Tony DiBlasi singled home Bill Quoss who had singled and stole second to lead off the inning.  But, as would happen repeatedly throughout the game, the Braves came right back with a run of their own in their next turn at bat.

(story still under construction ...)

After starting the season off 0-for-9, Bill Quoss has hit .500 (7-for-14) in his last five games to raise his average to .333.  ... The Bats were all ecstatic to see Scott Payne get the monkey off his back with his first hit of the season, an RBI single in the hole between third and shortstop.
