BATS DEFENSE LEADS TO 5-3 VICTORY OVER GRAYS
6/13/2010by Ron Skrabacz
The Bats took advantage of back-to-back hit batsmen in the fifth inning to score 2 runs in a rain-shortened 5-3 victory over the Grays at Jacobs High School.  It was the Bats (3-4)second win over the Grays (0-6) in as many tries this season.

The defense played a part early on as starting pitcher Bill Quoss gave a lead off single to the Grays Frank Dimaria.  Dimaria promptly stole second base and tried to score on a one-out single to center field.  Centerfielder Bruce Marchionda threw to Quoss who quickly fired it home to catcher Ken Kozlik for the out to save a run.

That play seemed to set the tone for the rest of the game as Bats fielders made several spectacular plays during the game to keep the Grays off the bases and out of scoring position.

BATS NOTES:  Denny Prosperi came off the disabled list and played two innings at first base.  Denny wasted little time flashing some leather, twice coming off the bag to tag the runner going by. ... Bruce Barnes, sporting a fashionable black shoulder immobilizer for his left arm, made a cameo appearance in the Bats dugout.  It was the first time Bruce had made it out to a game since seperating his shoulder on April 18 against the Angels. ....  Despite gutting out a 5-3 decision, the Bats offense failed to score more than 2 runs in an inning six more times.  In 45 offensive innings this season the Bats have scored 2 runs 8 times, 1 run 8 times, 0 runs 28 times, and 7 runs once.

BATS STARS OF THE GAME:
